True Merit Award

The True Merit Award was first established in 1969 as the Chapter Efficiency Award as a way to recognize outstanding Alpha Tau Omega chapters across the nation.

There is no certain number of chapters that will be awarded True Merit from year to year. Rather, in keeping with the spirit of the Creed, the True Merit Award is awarded to as many chapters who achieve a level of chapter operation that is worthy of the recognition.

Gamma Upsilon has recorded 26 True Merit Awards since its induction, the 6th most across the nation. The Iowa State chapter has won the award the last eight consecutive years, one of the nation’s longest active streaks.

The annual Thomas Arkle Clark Award recognizes the top Alpha Tau Omega senior candidate for an undergraduate degree nationwide. It was established as an incentive for young brothers to seek excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and the personal qualities of character, integrity, and responsibility.

Iowa State Sorority and Fraternity HaLl of Fame Award - Bill Burke (‘52)

Every year, the IFC inducts one new member into their Hall of Fame. The hall is comprised of outstanding alumni from chapters across the community in years past. Brother Bill Burke is an uber-qualified recipient due to the contributions he has extended to our brotherhood since his own time in the house. He was able to raise over $900,000 through his connections back in the 1980s that led to our major house renovations. He saved our chapter from a tumble in the mid-90s when enrollment and funds were declining by making a massive down-payment on the mortgage. We are forever thankful for Brother Burke’s efforts and fellowship to us throughout the years, and we fully support and congratulate his induction into the Iowa State Sorority and Fraternity Hall of Fame.
